Everyone is wondering how to lay sod, well we will give you all you need to know.

Laying sod is not complicated but it is hard labor. In most cases you need at least a two man crew. One person can manage to lay sod in a small yard, but you will need more than one person to lay sod in a large yard.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO LAY SOD:

1. The first step in laying turf is to measure the lawn to see how much area will be need to renovate the lawn.

2. Once you have the yard measurements you can order the sod. before you order the sod you must determine if the area to be sodded is sunny or a shaded area. Zoysia and St. Augustine are good for shaded areas and Centipede is great for sunny areas.

3. Next you must ask your self do you need high traffic tolerant sod if so Zoysia grass will be your best option. Big dogs and kids running over the grass is not good St. Augustine. Remember that Centipede grass does not do well in heavily shaded areas.

4. Remove the existing grass and weeds. If the lawn is infested with weeds you must kill the weeds. once the ground is clear you need to spread new topsoil or till the ground.

5. We recommend and new topsoil mixed with some compost. once the topsoil is spread evenly across the lawn you have to make sure that the area to be sodded. After the lawn is graded smoothly you can begin laying the sod.

Remember: that the turf has to be laid quickly it can not sit on a pallet for more than 24 hours and in the summer it should be laid within a couple hours after being delivered. The rolls needs air, sunlight, and water. The longer the  grass rolls sits on a pallet the less chance it has to survive.

Once all the grass is laid it should be watered immediately.
